the mathew st festival this year was confined to mostly indoor events, one such event which caught everyones attention was the early afternoon set at the famous bar fly on seel st by "northerndaze" who are promoted by none other than the legendary "sam leach" who looked after the beatles interests(yes the beatles!) before a certain brian epstein whisked them away in a golden carriage(well not exactly- but you get the drift) anyways "northerndaze" who have been described as the new beatles(a tag which they welcome like an angry bull in a newly opened liverpool china wholesale shop) played a short but brilliant set, opening up with "tired eyes" an uplifting jingle which is interspersed with harmoica from the lovely "helly marshman" on lead vocals(who has certain other aspects apart from her brilliant voice-if you know what i mean!) this was quickly followed by "i don't care","would ya?" and the new single "dirty clouds of dam",all which were polished off with aplomb and merited all the press photographers that were there(who mostly concentrated on helly for the main festival pics-presumably which went in the local liverpool echo) all in all a brilliant set from the new beatles(sorry....not the new beatles!!)
